India on Friday asked Kuwait to bring forth labour reforms that would bring all workers under the purview of the country's labour laws.

"I hope that Kuwait will witness important forward looking labour reforms that should bring all workers, including those in the unorganised sector and the domestic workers, under the purview of Kuwait labour laws," Minister for Overseas Affairs Vyalar Ravi said.

He said that a good number of people of Indian origin have been working in Kuwait and therefore the two countries should come closer to each other so that the number further increases.

The Minister was speaking at a meeting organised jointly by Assocham, CII and FICCI in the honour of the visiting Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah al Ahmad as-Jaber al-Sabah here.

Outlining the need to develop bilateral trade between the two countries, Ravi said pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, food processing, engineering, construction, IT, petroleum and petrochemicals are the areas in which India-Kuwait should forge stronger and strategic ties.

Adressing the gathering, the Kuwaiti Amir sought closer economic and trade relationship with India that can ensure job opportunities to citizens of both countries.

"Relationship between the two nations are based on mutual trust and goodwill, having a long term vision," Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah al Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah said on Friday.

He hoped that the economic synergy between our two countries would offer great opportunities for India's and Kuwait's public and private sector to cooperate in profitable ventures for mutual benefit.
