India and Pakistan exchange list of prisoners
Media Release
Jun. 18, 2006

Pakistan and India share a long border straddling the Arabian Sea, rugged mountains, plains and deserts. The two countries routinely arrest each other's nationals for border violations.
Many of the Indians and Pakistanis who get arrested on the wrong side of the border are held for years before being released, often without having faced a court trial.
In the meeting in Islamabad, the Pakistani and Indian officials agreed to release by June 30 each other's civilians who have completed their prison terms and whose nationality has been verified and been granted consular access.
Before the meeting, India freed 59 Pakistani fishermen while Pakistan released Indian prisoners.
