India's kinetic launches Italian-designed scooter
Kinetic Motor Company on Friday launched the ''Blaze'', a 165 cc Italian-designed gearless scooter, targeting to sell 40,000 units in the first year, adding up to Rs 1.8 billion (US$39.9 million) to its turnover.
The Blaze is the first launch from the seven-vehicle Italiano series that Pune-based Kinetic acquired from Italian two-wheeler major Italjet Moto.
Priced at Rs 49,990 (ex-showroom, Bangalore), Blaze has four valve engine with nearly 12 bhp and is available here as well as in Pune and Goa, the company's managing director Sulajja Firodia Motwani said.
The national launch of Blaze is slated for next month and the company has targeted to sell 36,000 to 40,000 units in the first year, adding Rs 1.5 billion to Rs 1.8 billion to its turnover. Two more models of the Italiano series would be rolled out in July and December this year and an equal number next year, she said.
Motwani described Blaze, fully manufactured in India, as a "category-creator".
The Blaze is expected to start the "next revolution" for Kinetic, she said and recalled the launch of the Luna in 1972 and automatic scooter in 1984.
She said that Kinetic, a late entrant into the motorcycle segment, suffered ''huge losses'' due to "cut-throat competition" but added that Kinetic would continue to be in the motorcycle business.
Kinetic said the Blaze offers several features like front telescopic shocks, twin rear shocks for extra stability, 12 inch tyres, protective front shield, comprehensive instrumentation, and split seat with large underseat storage space.
