India tries to save the Nepal King while Nepal Moaists talk to Indian communists for their next move
Kiran Chaube
Apr. 22, 2006

Nepal politics has become complicated. The issue is so complicated that India’s political future is also involved. As King bowed to the people of Nepal and decided to give up power, the Nepal Maoists are consulting with India’s communist chiefs to decide their next step. According to CPM’s Sitaram Yechury, drawing the Maoists into the democratic mainstream is the biggest advantage that India will have in tackling its own internal Maoist problem, and India shouldn’t isolate them. This is an opportunity to bring the Maoists into the mainstream and give them a say in the Government formation so that the terror infrastructure gets dismantled.

The Indian Marxists popularly known as the Left parties feel, India should include the Maoists into talks of forming a democratic Government in Nepal. Isolating the Maoists will be a disaster for Nepal and India. But can Indian Government led by Congress party have the courage to initiate such talks? Maoists consider Congress party their archrival.

Nepal’s Maoist leader and the CPM’s Sitaram Yechury talked briefly. India’s Left parties are unhappy over India’s taking side with the King. The Left parties want India to extend talks to the Maoists so that people of Nepal – all of them are heard.
