Earthquake measuring 5.7 hits India's northeast

An earthquake measuring 5.7 in magnitude shook the border region in India's northeast on Thursday, the meteorology department said.

There were no immediate reports of any damage or casualties from the quake, the epicenter of which was traced to the border between India's Arunachal Pradesh state and Bhutan, the meteorology department said.

Tremors were felt in neighboring states of Assam and Meghalaya. In Gauhati, Assam's capital, people living in high-rise apartments rushed out of homes and spent several hours outside after the quake that came around 2 a.m.
