Russia and China stand against allowing United States politicizing UN debate on Syria and repeat what happened in case of Iraq – UN showdown evident between West and Russia-China block

Russia is closely watching American and French efforts to do a repeat show in UN on Syria in the same line of what happened in case of Iraq. While regime change in Syria may be in the cards for France and United States, Russia may outright veto any such efforts in UN Security Council.

Chinese position is also not to allow United States in using UN Security Council against Syria. China may also be ready to threaten a veto in this matter.

According to media reports, Russia does not want debate in the U.N. Security Council over the U.N. report on the assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik al-Hariri to be politicized, a Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman said. The spokesman added that any attempts to resolve the issues raised by the report should not "lead to a new trouble spot" or destabilize the Middle East. Security Council discussion of the al-Hariri assassination is planned for Oct. 26.
