India and Australia on Friday signed a fresh memorandum of understanding, aimed at enhancing cooperation in the field of information technology.

An MoU, which was signed in 2000, had lapsed last year.

"Both countries have identified areas such as software and multimedia content development, advanced communication technologies, e-commerce, IT security, e-learning, Internet applications and e-government as the areas of cooperation," a release said here.

The MoU was signed by IT department Secretary Brijesh Kumar and his Australian counterpart Helen Williams here on Friday.

The MoU also envisages to identify the mutually beneficial areas and forge joint collaborations to further strengthen bilateral activities in ICT within governments, industries and academia from both the countries.
