The race to make India contain China - Boeing offers world’s top-of-the-shelf weapons platforms to India with indication of outsourcing from the country
It is clear now that India is a country that can eventually contain the Communist China right in Asia from further expansion. India has the talent, financial and economic backdrop and the true multi-party democracy to do that. The Western nations today look at India to provide leadership and compassion in the region against terrorism and totalitarian regimes.
Soon India will have some very advanced state of the art weapon systems from America. Russians are also looking at India as a world leader in defense, economy and technical talent.
US aviation major Boeing proposes to offer its top-of-the-shelf armament and weapons platforms to India and also to be a strategic supplier and partner, the company's Integrated Defence Systems CEO Jim Albaugh said.
"India has an impressive network of aerospace research and development labs along with proven manufacturing capabilities, which provide a solid foundation on which to develop collaborative capabilities," he said after his meetings with top Indian government and military officials in his first visit here.
Albaugh, whose company's F-18/A Super Hornet fighter is one of the bidders for India's plans to purchase 126 Medium Role Combat Aircraft, said Boeing was also proposing to expand efforts to engage country's capabilities in software, engineering design and technology to address his company's globalization priorities.
"India is playing a large strategic role - not only in the region, but increasingly on global stage - and the increasing level of cooperation between India and US is a positive development," he said.
He said his visit here was aimed at making Boeing understand New Delhi's defence requirements more completely. "We can bring the best the Boeing has to offer in response to those needs".
Albaug's talks here assume significance as Boeing Integrated Systems, with a turnover exceeding 30bn US dollars is among the world leaders in satellite manufacturing, provider of space-based communication, primary systems integrator for US missile defence systems and also leading provider of intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance systems.
The company is also the world's largest military aircraft manufacturer and during his meeting with Indian officials, the Boeing Defence Systems CEO said he had reaffirmed commitment to develop long-term relationship with the Indian defence industry - both public and private.
He said Boeing was interested in India not only as a market, but also a strategic supplier and partner.
