Nuclear installations in Pakistan damaged?
Balaji Reddy
Oct. 12, 2005

While India’s nuclear installations are far away from Kashmir, Pakistan’s is not that far apart. According to some international think tanks, Pakistan may have had some serious damages to its nuclear and missile installations as the killer earthquakes waves furiously passed these installations to Afghanistan.

The tremor felt in Afghan Pak border was quite severe. That means these Pak underground nuke installations have received the severe jolts.

Pakistan and India said that their nuclear arsenals and facilities are safe following the Oct. 8 earthquake, which has killed some 50,000 people. A Pakistani military spokesman said Islamabad's nuclear installations and weapons remain "fully safe." Officials in New Delhi declined to comment on the status of their arsenal, but the Nuclear Power Corp. of India said it has received no reports of damage to any of its facilities

However, experts do not agree with Pakistani statements. The strategic nuke and missile launching facilities have extensive underground infrastructure in Pakistan for strategic reasons. There are strong possibilities that these have been severely damaged. The Pakistan authorities will deny the same.
