In the middle of all controversy and mud slinging Ganguly's Academy inaugurated
His cricket academy is open. The West Bengal’s tiger cricketer has something to smile in the middle of all controversies and mud slinging.
Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly's Cricket Academy was inaugurated by West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadev Bhattacharjee, in the presence of a large number of dignitaries from various fields here today.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister thanked Ganguly for taking "some responsibility" in grooming young talents of the state.
"We want cricket to become more popular. We want more players from the state to make it to the highest level," Bhattacharjee said.
"But one fine morning one cannot become a cricketer. For that a youngster needs good training and practice facilities. I know that because I wanted to become a cricketer but could not."
An ardent follower of the game, Bhattacharjee, however, said "the grammar of cricket is not everything. To become someone like Sourav, you need to have talent."
The academy, set up on a five-acre plot of land in collaboration with country's leading consumer electronics and home appliances company Videocon International Limited at the satellite township of Salt Lake, would initially train 700 youngsters.
Christened ''The Videocon School of Cricket'', the academy has been established at a cost of Rs. 1 crore.
Ganguly himself would offer tips to the youngsters whenever he has time from his busy cricketing schedule.
"Whenever I will be free, I will try to help these boys," Ganguly said after the inauguration.
