Nepal Maoists taking advantage of India-Nepal cold war over political freedom

Maoists are on offensive again in Nepal. Sources day, they are expanding into India and strengthening their bases in Nepal. They are encouraged by the recent difference in opinion and cold war between Nepal and India.

Maoists continue to cause havoc in Nepal.

Armed Maoists abducted 94 people, including students and teachers, from east Nepal even as the army claimed it had killed at least eight rebels in the first reported clashes between the two sides since the guerrillas declared a unilateral ceasefire. About 30 guerrillas entered the four schools of Okhaldhunga district and forced 57 students and 37 teachers to go with them, security sources said. Meanwhile, eight Maoists have been killed in the latest skirmishes with the Army, the first reported skirmishes between the two sides since the rebels declared a three-month unilateral ceasefire on September 3. According to Army sources, two rebels who tried to open fire on the patrolling security forces, died on the spot during the retaliatory action carried out by security forces at Aunsidanda area of Terathum district. In another incident, security forces shot dead six rebels during skirmishes after the rebels fired on security personnel conducting regular patrol at Badarpur area, The Rising Nepal newspaper said. Meanwhile, 12 Maoist rebels have surrendered before the local administration in Dhading district in central Nepal, security sources said. Those surrendering before the administration include Village People's Government chief, deputy chief and secretary of the Maoist outfit.
