The rumor in Pakistan and Western Afghanistan is that Osama Bin Laden is critically injured.
U.S. military and NATO spokesmen Aug. 29 rejected reports on Islamist Web sites that al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden has been wounded in western Afghanistan. Col. James Yonts of the U.S. military said Washington has examined the claims and found no evidence that bin Laden sustained injuries in a purported clash with Spanish troops based in the western province of Herat. A NATO spokesman in Kabul, meanwhile, called the reports rumors. He was referring to the Aug. 24 report on Italian news Web site Adnkronos International that cited two messages regarding bin Laden on Islamist Web sites.
