Will history repeat? Pat Robertson made a similar remark on Saddam in 1999 – is he the spokes person of America’s right on assassinating Venezuela’s Chavez?
The history repeats itself. Pat Robertson, a right wing American evangelist called for the assassination of oil rich Venezuela President Victor Chavez. He made a similar comment on Saddam Hussain in 1999. Many believe, he represents America’s right wing organizations and provides an early warning to what America’s right plans to do.
Venezuelan Ambassador to the United States Bernardo Alvarez said Aug. 23 that Caracas is asking Washington to condemn in the strongest possible terms Pat Robertson's comments supporting the assassination of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez. Alvarez added that Venezuela is looking into extra security measures to protect Chavez when he is in the United States.
Remarks by U.S. religious broadcaster Pat Robertson on Aug. 22 that the United States should assassinate Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez do not represent U.S. policy, U.S. State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said Aug. 23. Venezuelan Vice President Jose Vicente Rangel dismissed Robertson as a "hypocrite" and "criminal." Robertson made similar remarks in 1999 about former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.
