Slam the door on Indian IT oligarchs; stop them from exploiting you, your IT job waiting for you in Australia
Do you still work for Indian IT firms selling you as a body to western companies? What a shame! Don’t let these Indian quick money oligarchs sell you as a commodity to the Western firms. Your job is waiting for you in Australia!
Close on the heels of the Australian immigration department announcing plans to promote Australia in India, a state government has shown interest to go directly to India to attract information technology workers.
South Australia's premier Mike Rann would be promoting his state as a likely destination for the Indian IT graduates and workers when he leads a state trade mission to New Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai next month.
The skill shortage gap in all the Australian states is reported to be widening. The government had recently announced an increase of 20,000 extra skilled immigrants for the current fiscal year to help plugging the gap.
While all the IT related positions were removed from the Migration Occupations in Demand List (MODL) last year, few states are showing immediate need of information technology workers to meet the requirements of their booming economies.
South Australia is one such state in dire need of it workers.
The SA deputy premier Kevin Foley has been recently quoted by Murdoch press newspapers as saying that his state is in ''''desperate need'''' of key technology skills like software development and systems integration.
The unusual South Australian initiative is an effort to pre-empt the choice of more populous eastern state by the incoming Indian IT workers.
An overwhelming majority of the incoming immigrants prefer to settle in the eastern states of New South Wales and Victoria, which are also home to the two of the largest Australian cities, Sydney and Melbourne.
The trend is also extended to the international students coming to study in Australia.
The trade mission led by premier Rann would also endeavour to promote the state educational institution to the prospective Indian IT students. A world-renowned university is about to open a branch in South Australia.
''''Carnegie Mellon's Adelaide branch will be the highest world-ranked university operating in Australia,'''' deputy premier Foley said recently. This will ensure South Australia is well placed to meet the challenges of skill shortages and to provide a fantastic educational choice for international students, especially those from India who want a US degree, he added.
