International horse-trading continues for supporting G-4 countries in getting a permanent seat in Security Council
Hirak Sen
Aug. 19, 2005

It is a total shame that money is becoming the only consideration in supporting G-4 countries in getting a permanent seat in Security Council.

Japan's proposal to become a permanent member of the U.N. Security Council along with Germany, Brazil and India (together called G4) will be supported by seven Central American states in return for Japanese investment in infrastructure and security, CNN reported Aug. 18. Nicaraguan vice president Jose Rizo Castellon said the Council bid was "absolutely legitimate"; Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Panama and the Dominican Republic would join Nicaragua in supporting the G4.
