Aug. 18, 2005

Leaked documents from the probe into the July 22 death of Brazilian Jean Charles de Menezes, shot to death in the London Underground by police who wrongly thought he was a suicide bomber, say de Menezes was not wearing a bulky coat and walked calmly through the station in contrast to earlier claims, U.K. network ITV News reported Aug. 17. The documents allege de Menezes was restrained before being shot and that a surveillance officer's toilet break during Menezes'' departure from his home could have botched the police pursuit.
