India and Brazil tilting towards communism?
Something very interesting is happening in Brazil and India two democratic growth engines in Asia and Latin America. In India the Marxists are slowly but steadily gaining ground. In Brazil, exactly the same thing is happening.
In India, Sonia Gandhi, the Congress leader in power accepted the fact that the Common Minimum Program promised to people has not been addressed. The Congress Party up till now catered to the rich oligarchs of India forgetting about those who put them in power in last election. Marxists on the other hand have created a perception that they are on the side of common people in rural sector, the peasants and other poor people. Slowly they are gaining popularity even in regions that are religious conservative and communism could never have a say before.
Socialist and Marxist groups will protest Aug. 16 and Aug. 17 for and against Brazilian President Luiz Inacio "Lula" da Silva in Brasilia, organizers of the two protests said Aug. 15. The National Students Union, the Brazilian Landless Peasants Movement, the Confederation of Workers and the Coordination of Social Movements will march Aug. 16 in da Silva's support, but will demand anti-corruption measures. Student and teacher organizations, as well as radical socialist and labor groups founded by expelled leaders of the ruling Workers'' Party, will march Aug. 17 to demand da Silva shift his policies to the left.
Brazilian opposition parties investigating corruption allegations involving the ruling Workers'' Party (PT) are divided over whether to try to impeach President Luiz Inacio "Lula" da Silva, leaders of the right-leaning Liberal Front Party (PFL) and the Brazilian Socialist Democratic Party (PSDB) said Aug. 15. PFL leaders believe there is enough evidence to substantiate impeachment proceedings. Most PSDB leaders, on the other hand, believe trying to impeach da Silva would be a mistake given the president's high personal popularity. Opinion polls done at the end of July show the president's approval and popularity ratings are dropping.
Brazil and India is experiencing a scenario where the socialists and Marxists are gaining ground through the misdoing of the capitalist side. The outcome of these with China already a Communist power can be dangerous for the free world. But then in democracies people should have the final say. Unlike in China. in India and Brazil, if Communists come into power, they will come through the ballot. But the problem lies after that. In the history of world, once the communists have come to power, they do not leave so easily. They try to undermine the essence of democracy and stay in power by hook or crook!
