India files revised offers to WTO - India ready to export services beyond IT and Call Centers

India is aggressively pursuing export of services to the world beyond Information Technologies and Call Center work.

According to media sources, India has submitted its revised offer on Services before the World trade Organistion (WTO) offering commitments in a number of new sectors.

All the fresh commitments and improvements in the offers are in line with the autonomous liberalisation already undertaken by India and the country is seeking to bring them in WTO in exchange for reciprocal commitments by our trading partners in the areas of interest of India, an official statement said.

The new sectors on which India has offered commitments include architectural; integrated engineering and urban planning and landscape services; veterinary services; parts of distribution services (excluding retail trade). The additional sub sectors, where the commitments were offered include construction and related engineering services, life insurance services, services auxiliary to insurance; asset management services; part of recreational cultural and sporting service and part of air transport services, the statement said.

New commitments have also been offered in cross border supply in other business services, professional services, research and development services, rental and leasing services and real estate services, it added.

The statement also said improvements have been in the existing mode 3 commitments by enhancing the foreign equity limit in engineering services, computer and related services, R&D services, basic telecommunications, value added telecommunications, construction and related engineering allowances to 55 per cent of basic pay.

Finance minister Asim Dasgupta told newsmen here that the DA to be paid from September one.

The beneficiaries would also include teachers of government institutions including those whtired, Dasgupta said the payment of the fresh DA would entail an additional expense of Rs 147 crore during this financial year.

He said the government was considering payment of another installment of DA after the Pujas.

At present, central government employees are paid DA at the rate of 67 per cent of basic pay.
