Israel pulls out of Gaza stripe, 7500 Palestinian soldiers take position to prevent rocket attacks from militant groups but Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad adamant

History is happening in front of our own eyes. Palestinian security forces have begun deploying in the Gaza Strip in coordination with the Israeli withdrawal operation, a senior Palestinian security official said Aug. 13. The official said a security force of 7,500 would be deployed over the course of 24 hours, some of the troops assuming positions that Palestinian forces have not held since September 2000 when the second intifada began. Both Israeli and Palestinian security officials say the Palestinian's main task will be to prevent rocket attacks from militant groups such as Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad during the pull-out.
