Manmohan apologizes to India and Sikhs but it is not about killing minorities it is about using minorities - why Congress party should resign
Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Thursday apologized to his Sikh community and the nation for the 1984 anti-Sikh riots that some leaders of his Congress were accused of instigating after Indira Gandhi's killing. Congress party ever since the death of Mrs. Indira Gandhi and especially under the guidance of Sonia Gandhi in recent days, have pursued a selfish policy of appeasing minorities to get their votes. But the 1984 episode shows how little they care for the minorities. The fact they tried to hide and protect the 1984 Sikh riot criminals, the congress party is guilty.
Hypocrisy is what people are talking about. On one hand you kill the minorities blatantly and on the other hand you open the gate of Islamic immigrants into the country to get more Muslim votes. What kind of policy is that? There are many ways to come and stay in power. This should not be one of them.
Apology do not count because Congress is not only at fault of killing minorities, they are also responsible for using minorities in India.
"I have no hesitation in apologizing not only to the Sikh community but to the nation because (the riots) negated the concept of nationhood," Manmohan Singh said in the Rajya Sabha, to loud desk thumping from the treasury benches.
"I bow my head in shame for what happened... but there are ebbs and tides in a nation's history."
He was intervening in a discussion on the Nanavati Commission report on the riots and the government's action taken report (ATR) that had evoked widespread criticism for virtually letting Congress leaders off the hook.
Admitting that the past cannot be undone, he urged: "But we have the willpower to write a better future and ensure such incidents are not repeated."
How about stopping to use minorities to get their votes and also stop killing them in mass when some of them go against you?
