The Left parties including Indian Marxists join BJP in the demand for nailing of those accused for the deadly 1984 anti-Sikh riots
India woke up to find that the country united against the ruling Government who is dragging its feet for allowing criminals who killed 2700 people in deadly 1984 anti-Sikh riots to roam around free. The Indian Marxists joined hands with BJP led NDA is demanding the nailing of those accused.
Key UPA allies, CPI-M and CPI, on Tuesday asked the government to launch prosecution against those whose culpability has been indicated by the Nanavati Commission on the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
"The CPI-M demands that the government act on the specific recommendations made by the Commission to proceed against certain persons named and to probe the involvement of others whose culpability has been indicated by the Commission", the party Polit Bureau said in a statement.
Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on Tuesday said people named in the Nanavati Commission report on the 1984 anti-Sikh riots should resign from the council of Ministers and asserted that as Prime Minister Manmohan Singh too was responsible for the Action Taken Report.
"Those who have been named by the Nanavati Commission, those who have been accused by it should resign from the council of Ministers," he told reporters here.
Asked about the NDA's decision to demand Manmohan Singh's resignation on the issue, he said, "as the Prime Minister, he is also responsible".
