Why Al-Queda spear heads like Bin Laden and al-Zarqawi keep going unlike Saddam?
Sometimes you may wonder why Saddam was captured so fast and easy compared to that of real terrorists like Bin Laden and al-Zarqawi. The reason is that Bin Laden and al-Zarqawi are not really worriers or heads of state. They enjoy their sphere of influence and live with hide and seek mentality.
Saddam’s capture, Iraq war, Pakistan’s Nuke scientist Khan’s house arrests – all these actually help Bin Laden and al-Zarqawi to gather sympathy in their spheres of influence and survive with the help of common people.
Saddam in Iraq now is treated as a past leader with brutal force who collapsed in front of larger force. But Bin Laden and al-Zarqawi keep fighting and that is what keep them going. one way to capture them will be to somehow putting them in a situation like Saddam where they cannot create any terror and have run and hide to avoid capture. At that point of time, they will not be able to achieve a lot of sympathy from common people.
For example, right now Iraqi leaders who are enemies for ages of Saddam are planning to bring Saddam to justice. That itself is helping al-Zarqawi and Bin Laden’s shadow to survive in Iraq.
Look at the news from Iraq: Saddam Hussein is expected to be convicted of "crimes against humanity" and executed within weeks, the government-financed Iraqi daily Al-Sabah reported July 23, citing sources close to the trial. The sources said they expect death penalties to be handed down to top aides to Hussein as well after the former Iraqi leader is sentenced.
Look further: Al Qaeda in Iraq, led by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, said July 23 that it kidnapped Algeria's ambassador to the country July 22. A statement posted on an Islamist Web site said Ambassador Ali Belaroussi and a diplomatic attache were taken because Algeria was following Western orders in sending an envoy to Iraq.
The Saddam’s Sunni sympathizers or friends know they cannot save Saddam but what about Abu Musab al-Zarqawi who is the new Saddam! The same is happening for Bin Laden.
War cannot be always won with brutal direct force, It needs shrewd diplomacy and psychological maneuvers. That is where the failure is in capturing Bin laden and Aby Musab al-Zarqawi.
