Jul. 20, 2005

This may be a major set back for the democracy creation process in Iraq.
A Sunni Arab member of the Iraqi constitutional committee, Mijbil Issa, was shot and killed along with two of his body guards on July 19 as the committee was meeting at Baghdad's Convention Center in the heavily fortified Green Zone. The meeting was immediately adjourned when the head of the commission, Humam Hammoudi received the news. Issa was among 15 Sunnis named in June to the committee responsible for drafting a new Iraqi constitution by Aug. 15.
