Kashmir election : Hurriyat (A) refuses participation and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh refuses early election
India is not in favor of early election in Jammu and Kashmir. The separatists are reluctant to participate either.
According to media reports, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today rejected the Hurriyat Conference demand for early elections in Jammu and opinion in Jammu and Kashmir to find a credible meaningful solution to the problem at hand." Hurriyat Conference (A) leaders today ruled out participation in assembly polls and share in the state government.
"We have had elections in Jammu and Kashmir which were described by international observers as free and fair ...Elections are due to the J and K assembly only after three years," Dr. Singh told reporters.
Besides chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, chief spokesman Prof Abdul Gani Bhat, Moulana Abbass Ansari, Bilal Gani Lone, Javid Ahmad Mir and Fazal Haq Quereshi also addressed the people.
This was the second major public meeting of Hurriyat (A) leaders outside Srinagar after their return from Pakistan and PAK.
" Let me make it clear that we are neither going to participate in any elections under Indian constitution nor are we seeking power. Our talks with New Delhi and Islamabad are not for polls or power but for the solution of Kashmir. We have been urging the governments of the two countries to seriously move forward for the solution and include Kashmiris into the dialogue process", said Mirwaiz.
