Iraqi insurgents target foreign ambassadors in Iraq
One after the other ambassadors of Arab and Islamic countries are being targeted by the insurgents in Iraq. Pakistan said July 5 it would remove its ambassador from Iraq in the wake of an attack against him earlier in the day. The Pakistani ambassador was wounded in the attack. The ambassador from Bahrain was also attacked in a separate incident on July 5.
Al Qaeda in Iraq claimed responsibility for kidnapping Egyptian Ambassador to Iraq Ihab el-Sherif in an Internet statement posted on July 5. Gunmen traveling in two cars fired July 5 on a convoy transporting Pakistan's envoy to Iraq, police said. The attack, which occurred in Baghdad, was the third in two days on a senior diplomat. Earlier in the day, gunmen also attacked Bahrain's top envoy to Iraq, Hassan Malalla al-Ansari, wounding him in the right hand by a single bullet. Egypt's envoy was kidnapped over the weekend.
Many foreign Governments are now thinking of withdrawing their Ambassadors and embassy staffs from Iraq!
