Intellectual Property Matters and Taxation issues only stumble block for India-America umbrella Science and Technology agreement
A historic agreement between India and America is in the making and will be signed when Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh visits America later this month.
Minister of State for Science and Technology Kabil Sibal, during his recent visit to the US, had discussed the draft of the agreement with the Science and Technology Advisor to President George Bush and also the representatives of the State Department.
"It will be negotiated soon," he said, pointing out that the two countries had earlier signed an agreement under the Indo-US Joint Programme only for Biotechnology.
Asked if there is any hitch in signing an umbrella agreement, Sibal said "the only road block is the IPR and Taxation issues. However, we are moving forward to resolve these issues."
The area of collaboration will include Pharmaceuticals, developing nano powders and paints, clean coal use technologies, other advanced Nano technologies and more.
According to Mr. Sibal, India is considered as the science and technology hub of the world. Every country – Russia, Israel, China, Brazil and America are eager to team with India for forward-looking technologies.
