Syrians claim they are going after Saddam Hussein’s people and Iraqi militants in Syria

Believe it or not Syrians are going after Saddam’s people who took shelter in Syria. This may be way to keep the American coalition troops away from Syria. Syria does not want Iraq’s current regime to declare war against Syria. According to sources, they are serious and they know American patience may be running out as insurgency in Iraq keep escalating.

According to media sources, the Syrian government reported on July 4th that it clashed with Iraqi militants which included former bodyguards of ex-Iraqi President Saddam Hussein on Qassioun Mountain near Damascus. The official news agency SANA reported that the Information Ministry said that a battle occurred at 1 a.m. local time. Few details about the results of the fighting were released aside from the fact that Sharif Ayed Saeed al-Smady, a suspected Jordanian militant, was captured in the fighting.
