US and North Korean officials meet in NY - can the nuke catastrophe be avoided?

The world watched a very important but unadvertised or media focused meeting between American and the North Koreans in NY.

U.S. and North Korean officials met informally at an invitation-only academic conference in New York the evening of June 30 to discuss Pyongyang's nuclear program. After the conference, one U.S. official said the direct dialogue between the two sides was helpful and that a date for resumption of the six-party talks will be announced soon.

According to international think tanks, North Koreans need a face saving situation before they agree to take their nukes down.

The million-dollar question always is – will North Korea ever decide to use its nuclear option? According to many especially those in South Korea, whatever nukes North Korea has, it is for making bargaining with US more feasible. Unfortunately for North Korea, Bush Administration will not negotiate like Clinton Administration. It will be difficult for North Korea to get away so easily.

Eventually Korea peninsula will become nuclear free someday!
