The next step after solar sail spacecraft - the next generation intergalactic spacecrafts with perpetual propagation from electromagnetic solar radiation
The next generation solar sail spacecraft after the Cosmos-1 class is intriguing. The sail reflects particles of light, or photons, from the Sun, gaining momentum in the opposite direction and driving the spacecraft forward. But Cosmos II, which will be launched on Tuesday, has some severe limitation. The power for propagation available from the reflection of photons from Sun is not only weak but also in not available in the whole stretch of the Universe. Cosmos II is a great effort. But next generation faster and longer-range spacecrafts are on the design table. These plan to use the solar radiation and flares for propagation and navigation.
The electromagnetic energy received from the Sun flares can be used to process ant-gravitational effects between planets, stars and other extraterrestrial bodies. Controlling the gravity and using electromagnetism for navigation provides very advanced space propulsion systems that can travel to the outer edges of the Universe at a very fast speed.
The advanced spacecrafts have hybrid propulsion system. A conventional terrestrial propulsion system to put it to the upper orbit and then the solar radiation converter take over.
According to some researchers, the technology really represents unlimited source of alternate energy which may finally be used for propulsion on the earth.
