Bihar politics lightens up – Paswan-Communist, Congress-Lalu and NDA alliances ready to fight it out
BJP led NDA has its first smile. Finally Paswan knocks the door of the communists in Bihar to counter Congress-Lalu alliance. The real fight now will be NDA versus Paswan-Communists weakened Congress-Lalu alliance. Paswan-Communist alliance may make the fight between NDA and Lalu-Congress allince interesting.
According to media sources, with the Congress keen to stay with Laloo Prasad Yadav for the next round of Bihar elections, Ramvilas Paswan is clinging to the CPM to tilt the scales in his favour.
Admitting that the CPM leadership had an hour-long meeting with Paswan, Politburo member Sitaram Yechury said, ‘‘Paswan has agreed to consider our view that the secular votes in Bihar should not be divided.’’
However, Yechury was non-committal on whether Paswan agreed go along with secular alliance to keep the votes intact. ‘‘He was with us for a long time, much water will flow in Ganges before the time of the election.’’
Even though both the CPM and NCP are keen to clinch the broad alliance, the CPM would prefer to leave to the main players - RJD chief Laloo Prasad Yadav and LJP chief Paswan to take the final decision.
But the CPI - which had decided against a tie-up with the RJD in the last elections - is taking a ‘‘BJP-NDA should be defeated’’ line.
‘‘We discussed it in the national executive, we kept the options open as we strongly feel that the secular parties need to come together,” Yechury said.
