India not to compromise on UN Security Council Seat – New Delhi on a collision course with Washington and Beijing on this issue
As Prime Minister Manmohan Singh visits Washington in five weeks, he is ready to demand US support for India’s bid for UN Security Council (UNSC) permanent membership.
India is making its intension clear to US and China who are the main obstacle for India’s bid for UNSC.
On Friday, Pakistan’s foreign minister Khursheed Mehmood Kasuri, met Bush and pleaded for his help in stopping the expansion of the Security Council.
Kasuri struck a chord with Bush on the issue, and according to sources here, the US President said the Security Council should not be expanded “in a hurry”.
India is planning not to compromise on this issue either with Beijing or Washington. India is dispatching national security adviser M.K. Narayanan to Washington on June 17 to get a second opinion on Indo-US relations and also inform India’s “no concession” mood on this issue.
All “improving relations” with India will hinge upon Washington’s support for India’s bid for UNSC.
Japan has also informed US that a negative approach will be catastrophic r US-Japan relations.
According to sources from India’s Prime Ministers Office, India will make President Bush understand that India did not appreciate America’s supplying Pakistan F16 fighter aircrafts. India also does not want US to hinder India’s bid for UNSC.
India has also informed China that all friendship and good relations may turn into a cold war if Beijing tries to hijack India’s bid for UNSC.
