BJP needs a fresh start – Advani and Vajpayee should resign to bring in new young leaders in the front
Oldies have run out of steam. BJP is a dynamic party of India. It is not Congress who is even today riding the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi, Nehru, Indira Gandhi and so on. BJP is future. Congress is part of the fading past glory of India.
India needs a dynamic party that represents its mainstream priorities. Unlike Congress BJP is truthful to the minorities of India. Every country including America has minorities. But it not fair to use the minorities to win the election.
BJP needed a long term cleansing process. Vajpayee and Advani should have resigned after losing the national election. It is a shame what they did. Still they arte hanging on to power after betraying their main constituencies.
What Advani should do is not to apologize but quietly resign by showing the world that he made a mistake and he is ready to take the responsibility for the same.
But BJP according to sources may not get rid of Vajpayee and Advani.
According to media sources, grappling with the leadership crisis, BJP top brass on Wednesday closed ranks behind L K Advani urging him to withdraw his resignation as party president on which he will give his decision on Thursday.
In the face of a strong RSS reaction to Advani's praise for Mohammed Ali Jinnah and other statements in Pakistan no BJP leader had rallied to his defence till its parliamentary board met here on Wednesday evening and passed a resolution rejecting his resignation and urged him to continue to lead the party.
However, interestingly the resolution passed at the parliament board refrained from making any reference to the controversial remarks on Jinnah that had attracted the RSS ire.
As Advani ruled out reconsidering his decision to quit, party vice president M Venkaiah Naidu presided over a meeting of the parliamentary board and central office bearers, which was attended by the top brass including former Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
"The meeting unequivocally rejected the resignation of L K Advani. The meeting appeals to Advani to continue to lead the party, which he has so ably led in the past," the resolution said.
Immediately after the meeting, all the BJP leaders barring Vajpayee and Murli Manohar Joshi drove to Advani's residence where Naidu handed over a letter conveying the parliamentary board's decision rejecting his resignation.
"On behalf of the party I request you to consider the strong opinion and wishes of the party members that you should continue as the party president. Both the nation and the party need your services. I am sure you will reconsider your decision and withdraw your resignation," Naidu's letter said.
Advani told Naidu and other leaders that he would convey his decision on Thursday in time for the parliamentary board meeting scheduled for 11:00 hours.
