Regime change in Syria?
Will Syria undergo an Iraq style regime change in coming months? Some international think tanks believe it will and some odes not.
However, the exiled potential new regime leaders are the best signals for an upcoming regime change. The other signal will be the conservative right wing radio talk shows in America. Both are hoping for a regime change. But unlike Saddam, Assad is shrewd and is ready trade peace for whatever it takes. Syria is undergoing change in thinking process. They are eager to distant themselves from the Iraqi insurgents.
However, Rifaat al Assad, the exiled brother of former Syrian President Hafez al Assad, said May 28 that he wants to return home to oust the authoritarian regime of his nephew and current Syrian president Bashar al Assad and usher in political and economic reforms including reconciliation with the United States, but fears assassination. The 67-year old exile added that his country suffers from internal and external instability and said the security and intelligence apparatus was running the show in Damascus and that his nephew was not entirely in charge.
