India and America push for full multi-party democracy in Nepal
People of Nepal deserve to live a decent life. What has happened in Nepal is deplorable. On one side the Maoists have taken the country hostage. On the other side the monarch has hijacked the democracy and fundamental rights of people.
According to PTI, The United States has said it will continue to push for full return of democracy in Nepal but refused to comment on India's decision to resume arms deliveries to the Kingdom.
When asked about the issue on Thursday, State Department spokesman Richard Boucher said, "I will leave that to them (India)".
Boucher said the situation had, however, improved in Nepal. "We''ve seen, I think, some improvement, some changes in the human rights situation, particularly as regards the Opposition leaders who were put in jail. But we do want a full return to democracy and we''ll keep pushing for that," he said.
India on May 10 had announced a partial resumption of arms supply to Nepal and hoped ''further and early'' steps would be taken towards the restoration of multi-party democracy and constitutional monarchy in the Himalayan Kingdom.
India had suspended arms supplies to Nepal following King Gyanendra's power grab on February 1.
The Indian Government had said that only those supplies, which were in the pipeline, will be given to Nepal.
