US may have started some excellent confidence building measures around North Korea
Bush Administration’s foreign policy is getting better every day. The international affairs has reached one of the most shrewd and wise level ever seen.
Senior U.S. State Department officials visited North Korea's U.N. office in New York on May 13 to say that Washington recognizes North Korea as a sovereign nation and that the United States has no plans to attack Pyongyang, Japanese media reported May 19. The U.S. Embassy in Tokyo confirmed that the first bilateral meeting between the two sides in five months did occur. The embassy said, however, that U.S. officials did not attend the meeting to negotiate, but to explain U.S. policy to the North Koreans. According to Japanese media, the State Department officials suggested that Washington would be willing to normalize ties if North Korea would give up its nuclear program.
This will solve a lot of problem. What is needed is the start of some dialog. North Korea cannot afford to show off its nukes! They need food, medicine and things to survive. At the same time some one had to break the ice.
President Bush and Dr. Rice must be praised for all the good work they are doing.
