What can North Korea do with their Nukes? Polluting water table and the Chinese dependence!
Sudhir Chadda
May 17, 2005

Satellite images are showing some activities that can predict that the Pyongyang regime is planning an underground nuclear test. Let us assume they have six to eight nuke bombs with missile pay loads of 3000 pounds. What can they really do with these?

The answer really lies with the attitude of China. 1.2 million strong North Korean Army will be immobile if fuels are not supplied by China.

But here is the flip side of the issue. North Korea may be threatening to the water supply to the South Korea. It is doubtful if their nukes will hit any serious targets anywhere. But any underground explosion in North Korea can potentially pollute the underground water network that supplies water to the South Korea.

In addition they can use these nukes to disrupt like in Japan and other Pacific Ocean targets.

But the whole issue again lies with China. North Korea will never do anything without direct approval and support from China. China and North Korea may be using these Nukes to bargain a face saving deal with the six nations headed by America.

China however is showing signs that it does not like tagging itself with North Korea.

A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman denied May 17 that North Korea asked Beijing to arrange a visit to Pyongyang by U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice for talks on North Korea's nuclear program. The Japanese daily Nihon Keizai Shimbun had reported earlier that Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing made the request on North Korea's behalf when he spoke with Rice on the telephone May 13. China's Foreign Ministry spokesman called the report "groundless."
