The porous Pakistan Afghan border center stage of Islamic militant operations
Balaji Reddy
May 17, 2005

Pakistan and Afghanistan share border areas that is most rugged, rocky and impossible to explore. And these areas are widely being used by Islamic Jihadists – not only Talibans and Al-Queda but also foreign born Jihadists.

Afghan guerillas continue to use Pakistan as a safe haven for launching attacks into Afghanistan, U.S. Commander Col. Gary Cheek said May 16. Cheek commended Pakistan's effort to root out insurgents, citing the contributions the Pakistan Army made to military operations in the Waziristan region, an initiative started more then a year ago that has dramatically affected insurgent activity in the area. Cheek further said he welcomed more operations and greater support from Pakistan, since a large problem still exists with militants coming across the border from Pakistan into the Khost province.
