Afghan leaders need to reach out to common people in Afghanistan - Students up rise in Afghanistan against US led coalition forces
Afghanistan is experiencing what any country normally would if the Government is not in real touch with the people. America led coalition forces did a great job in clearing Talibans and Al-Queda. But the way the elections were held and the Government came to power is less than “free and fair”. American cannot be blamed. They really tried to help Afghans to install a democratic Government. But the Afghans in power chose to take a short cut in coming to power. And that is haunting them now! Coming to power with the help of a powerful international coalition Army is easy. But to stay in power is not.
International relief organizations based in the eastern Afghan city of Jalalabad have evacuated their employees amid ongoing violence over the alleged desecration of the Koran by U.S. military personnel, officials reported May 12. Faizan-ul-Haq, spokesperson for the provincial government in Nangarhar province, of which Jalalabad is the capital, said two people were wounded when security forces opened fire on a group of 100 people gathered in the Khagyani district northwest of Jalalabad. Elsewhere, students took to the streets in Kabul raising signs calling for U.S. President George W. Bush to apologize for the incident and saying that permanent U.S. bases would compromise the country's independence. In another incident at the Polytechnic Institute northwest of the capital, demonstrating students torched a U.S. flag.
