Europe puts human rights related conditions before lifting arms embargo on China – it may strengthen India-China relationship

Europe has decided to make China improve its human rights related conditions before lifting the arms embargo. China needs European advanced weapon systems to modernize the Chinese Military and compete with other super powers.

A senior European Union delegation has told Chinese officials that Beijing must issue an amnesty for citizens imprisoned as a result of the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests if it wants the union to lift the arms embargo in place since the crackdown. The EU delegation said May 11 that China must make progress on human rights in four areas: release of the Tianenman prisoners, ratification of the U.N. convention on political and civil rights, reform of China's re-education-through-labor penal system, and easing of media censorship.

China does not like Europeans dictate about its internal matters. For now sources say, China may listen and accommodate Europeans but in the long run this will only bring China and India together. Chinese officials in Beijing are looking into European demands. American oppose any advanced arms supply to China. China is famous for reverse engineering advanced weapon systems and make its own.
