Meera’s lip locked kiss in the international release of Nazar!
She is beautiful. She is precious. She is glamorous and pride of South Asian Cinema. Her passionate lip locked kiss was a symbol of new India Pak romance. It caused a lot of fire and the whole world is waiting to see her kiss Ashmit Patel!
Kiss Miss or Missed Kiss? Meera admits she doesn’t know. While looking forward to the May 20 release of Nazar, the Pakistani actress says she has no clue if her stormy lip-lock still forms part of the film.
Mahesh Bhatt and Sevy Ali's Indo-Pak production has been in the news for all the wrong reasons ever since hardliners across the border objected to a scene where Meera is supposed to have kissed her co-star Ashmit Patel. The act, claimed fundamentalists, went against the culture and traditions of Pakistan.
According to Meera, the controversy has created a lot of uncertainty: "There was some thought being given to delete the kissing scene, but I hope that has not happened yet. I myself have to see whether the shot is there or not. If it has been deleted, I will certainly feel disappointed. I stand by what I have said time and again - what I did was right and I have no reason to worry. I still maintain that the kiss is part of beginning the process of friendship between the two countries."
The Pakistani film star feels not everybody wants Nazar to heal old wounds. "I want the film to be released in Pakistan as well as India, but there are vested interests who are working against me and against peace in the subcontinent. The producer is doing his best to ensure that Nazar gets released in my country, as this is the first film that has an Indian director and a Pakistani producer. I have played my part as an ambassador of peace, and now it is up to good people on both sides of the border to stand by me and support me for what I have done," she says. Meera insists she's not the only one who believes in a conspiracy theory.
"Even Mahesh Bhatt thinks some vested interest is working against us and it is again a rumour we have not deleted the kissing scene. I have also spoken to producer Sevy Ali about it," she says. The final verdict, according to Meera, will have come from the people. She wants everyone to go and watch Nazar once it is released and tell her what wrong she has done. "I am waiting to find out what the public thinks. That matters more than anything else," she declares.
