F1 car ready for test ride for Sachin – world’s best cricketer wants to become world’s most famous racecar driver
Would you get surprised to see Sachin Tendulkar spur ahead with another ambitious scheme – be a race car driver?
According to media sources, known for his penchant for fast cars, batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar, who was here to cheer for Indian racing sensation Narain Karthikeyan at the Spanish Grand Prix on Sunday, said he would love to drive a Formula One car.
Owner of a Spanking Ferrari, the cricket superstar rooted for Karthikeyan at the Circuit de Catalunya here even though the Indian driver finished 13th in the race.
A friend of Karthikeyan, Tendulkar moved around the pit lane and sat in Karthikeyan's Jordan contender unscathed by the media glare which hounds him back home in India.
“Don''t worry,” he laughed to a reporter, “It's great for me.”Tendulkar, who had tried his hand in go-karting with Karthikeyan, admitted he was in awe of the Formula One races.
”I love Formula One. I would love to have a drive in one,” he said.Earlier on Saturday, Tendulkar came here to root For karthikeyan and sat in the Toyota-powered car for a photo shoot.
“I got an invitation (from Karthikeyan) and there's no greater news than that for an Indian because being a countryman our support is always with him,” Sachin said.
In the race on Sunday, Karthikeyan's Jordan Toyota EJ15 car continued to remain off pace and he was overtaken by teammate Tiago Monteiro. “I made a reasonable start and the first few laps were ok. I was pushing hard as Tiago Monteiro was catching,” Karthikeyan said after the race.
”Then I made a mistake in running a bit too wide in a chicane, went in the dirt and Tiago overtook me. I am glad we both finished the race and that the team has been able to gather some useful data,” the Indian said.
