Iraqi insurgents are shaken by the massive American led coalition offensive in Iraq. U.S. troops supported by fighter bombers and helicopters continued their offensive in western Iraq's Anbar province for a third day May 10. Fighting has been reported in Obeidi, 185 miles west of Baghdad, and in the towns of Rommana and Karabilah near Obeidi. Insurgents also clashed with Marines near Al Qaim, close to the Syrian border. At least 100 insurgents and three Marines reportedly have been killed since the offensive -- known as Operation Matador -- began May 7.
The Sunnis and the Al-Queda splinter groups are fighting. American efforts concentrate on flushing insurgency out.
