Real democracy in Egypt may become a reality - the upper house of the Egyptian Parliament take the first step
Egyptians are hungry for real democracy as are people of every other country. They do not want oligarchy – they want democracy. Unfortunately, most democracies where the numbers of parties are limited fall short of real democracy. Egypt is being watched by the world for a long time. President Mubarak is a dictator in the name of some kind of democracy. But things may be changing for good in Egypt - the upper house of the Egyptian Parliament took the first step.
The Shura Council, the upper house of the Egyptian Parliament, on May 8 approved changes to the Egyptian electoral system. The changes are aimed at holding multi-candidate presidential elections in September. The measure was approved by 241 of the 264-member council and is scheduled to be presented to the lower house of Parliament on May 10. If passed by the lower house, the constitutional changes will be put to a public referendum.
