History in the making – disabled Preeti ready to make history in Asian and South Pacific Table Tennnis Championship
It will be the triumph of all disadvantaged people in the world. Preeti Dixit of India is going make it shine for all the disabled in the world.
Who says that handicapped person can’t be a good player? If anyone thinks like that, Kanpur based Table Tennis player, Preeti Dixit, has proved them wrong.
Preeti has been selected for the Asia and South Pacific Table Tennnis Championship, which is scheduled to be held in Malaysia from June 19 - 23, 2005. Even after an accident, which left Preeti disabled, she continues to play Table Tennis and looks forwards to participate in the next Asian Games due to be held in Kuala Lumpur. She practices Table Tennis for about four to five hours on a daily basis.
"I have been selected in the Asia and South Pacific Table Tennis Championship, which is going to be held in Malaysia from June 19-23, 2005. However, due to my poor and instable cash flow position, I may not be able to reach there. But, if the government or any NGO comes forward and assists me, I will be able to go there and participate," said Preeti.
"I met with an accident in 1993, still I am practicing regularly, which has made it possible for me to reach this level. Cricket is a popular sport and people are inclined towards it and manage also to get plenty of sponsors. However, the non -availability of sponsors may lead to another reason for my non- participation in the Asian Games," she adds. Dixit believes that if Preeti gets a chance to reach the championship, she will surely prove her capabilities and make the world proud of her.
"These players are playing for a very long time and performing well. So, if they get any sponsors then I am sure that they will definitely add glory to Kanpur as well as across the country," said R R Dixit, coach. Meanwhile, Preeti keeps her fingers crossed and hopes earl help from the Government.
