Saddam's nephew captured in Iraq in the middle of intensified rebellion and insurgency
Iraqi rebellion and insurgency are intensifying in Iraq. The Iraqi and coalition forces had apparent good news for them. Aymen Sabawi, a nephew of ousted Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein, has been captured near the northern Iraqi city of Tikrit along with several other insurgents, the Iraqi government said in a May 4 statement. Sabawi and his brothers have played an active role in sustaining the insurgency by providing financial support, weapons and explosives to militant groups, the statement said. Sabawi's father, Sabawi Ibrahim al-Hassan, was captured near the Syrian border with Iraq in February after the Iraqi government accused him and other former Baathist officials of planning and financing the insurgency from Syria.
As for insurgency, suicide and roadside bombing continue. U.S. Marines and Iraqi troops fought insurgents in Ar Ramadi in Iraq's Anbar province on May 3. The fighting started after insurgents attacked a checkpoint manned by Marines and Iraqi National Guard troops on the edge of town. Hospital officials said 12 insurgents; two Iraqi civilians and an Iraqi National Guard soldier were killed in the fighting.
