Putin is getting ready to welcome US President George Bush in Moscow soon. He has started softening his tone on Iraq and Syria.
Russian President Vladimir Putin says he has "vetoed" a proposed sale of Russia 185-mile-range Iskandar surface-to-air missiles to Syria, to ensure that Russia "cannot be described as irresponsible partners." Answering reporters'' questions in Israel on April 28th, Putin said Moscow does plan to sell the three-mile-range Strelets surface-to-air missiles to Damascus, but that these are purely defensive. To face them, one would have to attack Syria, he said, adding, "Surely you don''t want to do this, do you?"
Putin also asked Iran to stop its clandestine plans to manufacture Nuclear bombs and part of its controversial nuclear program.
