More Afghan Talibans surrender taking advantage of amnesty offer from Government
Karzai scored another clear shot victory when he received the information about more former Taliban leaders accepting amnesty offers to join the mainstream Afghan politics. According to sources, Karzai is a happy man today – his dream coming true – a viable democratic Afghanistan!
Mofti Habibur Rahman, head of the criminal department of the former Taliban regime's Interior Ministry, surrendered to authorities in Khost, Afghanistan, on April 23. Rahman said several other high- and low-ranking Taliban officials living in Afghanistan, Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates also would surrender, taking advantage of an amnesty offer made by the government because there is now an elected and legitimate government. Rahman refused to comment on whether southeastern Taliban commander Jalaluddin Haqani would surrender as well, citing security reasons.
Sources say the head of the Taliban regime; Mullah Omar may be ready to surrender too. But no one can confirm if he really falls under the amnesty offer and if he is really eager to surrender. Currently he is in the Afghan-Pakistan tribal are border zone hiding from coalition and Afghan forces.
