Bangladeshi Islamic militants’ access to chemical weapons of mass destruction from Mayanmar
Staff Reporter
Apr. 21, 2005

Bangladeshi Islamic militants with connection to Al-Queda for a long time are trying to establish a steady source of arms supply from neighboring Mayanmar. Now they may have access to Chemical weapons of mass destruction from the same source.

Mayanmar has a big stockpile of chemical weapons of mass destruction. The human rights group Christian Solidarity Worldwide has accused Myanmar's military of using chemical weapons during a February clash with Karen rebel fighters, according to April 21 media reports. The human rights group said a yellow vapor was released from artillery shells, causing the Karen soldiers to vomit blood, have difficulty walking and later causing some to develop diarrhea and blisters. The clash reportedly took place just inside the Myanmar border near the Thai town of Mae Hong Son.

The same shells may also go into the hands of Islamic militants especially in Chitagong Hill areas.
