Increasing internal riots in China – the dragon is shaking from inside
From outside it looks great but actually inside the dragon is shaking. China is experiencing increasing riots for social and geopolitical reasons. People are concerned about relentless growth, industrialization, and uneven distribution of wealth and extreme pollution from industrial factories.
Tens of thousands of villagers in China’s Zhejiang province rioted against police and security forces April 10, leaving some 50 police officers hospitalized, according to April 11th reports. The clash started after police tried to dislodge 200 elderly women from a camp they had established to protest pollution at an industrial site in Huankantou village, Dongyang city. Reports that two of the women had died during the police operation triggered the riot. A local police official told Reuters that the government had ordered them not to retaliate, so officers could defend themselves only with shields.
