Early indication of Pakistan signing Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty
There are some early indications that Pakistan may be signing the Nuclear Nonproliferation treaty. Pakistan’s nuclear “Father” A.Q. Khan was caught red handed proliferating nuclear technologies to other countries. Now he is under house arrest and Pakistan Government protects him against any interview by foreign journalists.
However, Pakistan is under increasing pressure to disclose its nuclear assets and provide evidence that it is not in the process of proliferating the technologies to other countries specially to Iran and North Korea. The other concern is that the nuclear infrastructure as well as assets can fall into the hands of Al-Queda.
To avoid further controversies, Pakistan may sign the Nuclear Proliferation Treaty.
The Nuclear Suppliers Group, a 44-member organization that advances nuclear non-proliferation, will hold talks in Pakistan on April 11-12, a Foreign Ministry official said April 11th. Pakistan said in February it wanted to join the organization, but the spokesman said this meeting is "exploratory in nature."
